SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS

BirdBase, BirdArea (including EditData), LepiList, the Pocket PC Add-On, the All Subspecies Add-On, the Mammal Data Add-On, plus all their updates, upgrades, and utilities, will run on any computer that uses Windows 95, 98, ME, XP, NT, 2000, Vista, or 7 (including their 64 bit versions) and has a CD ROM drive, several megabytes of unused hard disk space, and enough RAM to run a substantial Windows program. All the software runs properly on a Netbook (min-notebook) computer if it is first installed on a computer with a CD ROM drive then copied to the Netbook computer. The software can also be run on a Macintosh computer that has Windows installed or has the Windows emulation program Virtual PC.

  • The All Subspecies Add-On, the Mammal Data Add-On, and their updates, can be installed in older copies of BirdBase and/or BirdArea only after the programs have received updates of March 1, 2007 or later.
  • The Pocket PC Add-On also requires that the mobile device use the year 2000 or later version of the Pocket PC (also called Windows Mobile) operating system and that installed in your computer is the ActiveSync (also called Windows Mobile Device Center) program that came with the mobile device. Older copies of BirdBase and/or LepiList must have have received program updates of March 1, 2007 or later.

The BirdLexi files are on a CD ROM for a computer running any version of Windows or DOS, or for a Macintosh able to read text files in Windows or DOS format.
